Copy of Blackwood Stool
Hexagonal stool in contemporary design produced in Ash, Walnut, Oak, Douglas Fir and Cherry. Handmade in Scotland.
The first of our collection pieces the Blackwood stool was designed by developing the coopered construction of the Harpenden Nightstands. In flaring three of the six sides out towards the base the illusion of a twist is created. Extreme accuracy in the mitred facets of the shape is essential in the making of this piece of furniture and the hollow form allows for these stools to be stacked.
The stool, sometimes occasional table, takes its name from the first prototype constructed from solid Scottish Sycamore from the Blackwood Estate near Lesmahagow in South Lanarkshire.
We later prototyped a Walnut version using Croatian Walnut from a small family run sawmill in northern Italy and a cast, glass reinforced, lightweight concrete version for indoor or outdoor use. Produced in small batches these stools are now available in a variety of other solid timbers including Oak and Douglas Fir. Veneered versions are currently available in Oak, Douglas Fir, Ash and Cherry although most veneers are available on request.
