Two very rare pieces of Scottish Walnut were sourced for a pair of coopered nightstands for a client, originally from St Andrews, now residing in Hertfordshire.
One section came from a wind blown tree in Bothwell, of which only one branch survived the attention of an over eager Wood Chipper. The other branch came from an old priory fruit orchard on the banks of Loch Etive.
Although limited in quantity, both pieces were of exceptional character and we paired it with some lovely pale Scottish Ash, which lined the interior of each drawer cabinet. A very small and extremely rare piece of Bog Oak, several hundred years old, was used for the contrasting drawer finger pull.
The development of the faceted, coopered shape led us to design a sideboard for the same client using the remainder of the timber and later, our first collection piece, the Blackwood Stool.
